‘Pops in Fashion’ Concert Fuses Music with Fashion

Concert Queen Pops Fernandez is all set to celebrate her gifts of music and fashion in her upcoming solo concert Pops in Fashion this June 14 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World at 8 in the evening.

Produced by Resorts World Manila as part of its Concert Series which started January of this year, Pops in Fashion promises to be not just a musical delight, but also a visual spectacle.
The Concert Queen’s repertoire for the concert consists of both current and memorable upbeat tunes, anthemic ballads and wonderfully-arranged medleys. Mel Villena is the show’s Musical Director featuring the AMP Big Band while Kokoy Jimenez directs.
Aside from the songs she will dish out, Pops will also pay tribute to the ingenuity of Filipino designers as she dons the beautiful creations of Maxie Cinco, Francis Libiran and Cary Santiago. This is one showwhere the designers had to ask for the repertoire to have the clothesfashioned consistently with the songs.
“I am excited about the show because it is a fashion show and a concert rolled into one,” says Pops. “I saw the designs and all I could say was just wow and more wow”. “The concept of the show really matches the grandeur of the Newport Performing Arts Theater.”
Adding to the visual delight of the show is the presence of the wall to wall LED screen at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre. Specially produced videos will be flashed on the screen with each song having a different visual enhancement.
“This is my first time to have a big band complete with a brass section. Mang Mel has to rearrange almost all the songs to make sure that we have the big band sound. We had so much fun during our production meetings, the variety of songs that I will do is very exciting for me. I also get to dance, something I enjoy tremendously.”
The show will not be complete without the love songs. The Prince of Pop, Erik Santos will do his romantic ballads and duets with the concert queen. What royalty indeed, the queen with the prince together in one concert.
Pops began her music career at age 15 when she signed a contract with OctoArts Records in 1981. Pops has released 17 albums, starred in 17 movies and performed in numerous sold-out concerts here and abroad.
Last year, she was awarded by the 2010 Box Office Entertainment Awards of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholoarship Foundation, Inc. as the Female Concert Performer of the Year. To this day, Pops Fernandez is still the Concert Queen indeed.
