Mara Clara (2010 TV series)

Mara Clara is a currently airing Philippine family primetime television drama on ABS-CBN. This 2010 remake is based on the 1992 original television series of the same nameKathryn Bernardo was cast in the role of the new Mara, with Julia Montes as Clara.

Adaptation

Mara Clara is a remake of the 1992 television series, Mara Clara an adapted novel and serial of Emil Cruz Jr. produced by ABS-CBN. It starred Judy Ann Santos as Mara Davis/Del Valle andGladys Reyes as Clara Del Valle/Davis. Five years after the series had its finale at 1997, it was adapted into a film where the whole cast reprised their role except for Eruel Tongco's character Gary David who was played by William Martinez in the movie due to Tongco's death. In August 2010, ABS-CBN announced that they have decided to remake the television series.[3] Kathryn Bernardo is slated for the role of Mara opposite Julia Montes who will play the role of Clara

Story

In the revised version it all began when Alvira had a relationship with her former boyfriend at the time Gary but when Alvira left to go to the U.S to offer herself a good education this leaves Gary Insane and one night pursues his childhood friend Susan with Alvira's Homecoming, Gary is excited at first but when he finds out she is now married to Amante Del Valle. Alvira are who their real daughters are and with Gary that night he goes to jail for smuggling, the kids are named Mara David who is the real Del Valle and Clara Del Valle the real David, little did the girls know they will both share the same fate, with Mara who grew unloved by Gary and Clara who grew up spoiled, rotten and rich little did they also know that the lives they live now were suppose to be given to the opposite how long will the two learn how to face each others real being in the light.

Popularity

In November 2010, it was revealed to have the highest ratings on primetime with more than 31.1 viewers daily by fans and local Filipinos even abroad. It is currently the Biggest Primetime Series in the market to span to 38.7 throughout its run, making its currently the No.1 highest rated television dramas. It is currently revealed that it also tied with its pre-programming drama (Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin)  It also brought a Young Television Viewer into tears when 11-year-old girl (named Pamela Del Rosario) was distraught in the disappearance of Kathryn Bernardo's character as Mara it also had a million Youtube hits the actress also sent in a reply to the fan and viewer to the March 4, episode it is one of the most heartbreaking dramatic episodes to have a high rating almost headed to a 40% spot.

Launch

During the ABS-CBN trade event held August 24, 2010 at the World Trade Center Manila, ABS-CBN announced that the remake of Mara Clara for production in 2010 with Kathryn Bernardo slated for the role of Mara and with Julia Montes as Clara.[4]
