Kuya Kim Swims with Butandings in Matanglawin’s 3rd Anniversary Special

Kuya Kim travels to Bicolandia to search for the biggest fish in the world as part of the special 3rd anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN’s multi-awarded educational program “Matanglawin.”
Kuya Kim will face the deep waters and swim with the whale sharks or locally called the butandings. He will also challenge Bicol’s sili king Bert Gonzales as in munching one kilo of hot chilis.
“I have lots of stories to tell my children and grand children with all my experiences in Matanglawin. It’s as if things went fast forward in three years with all the things that I’ve done,” Kuya Kim said.
He also shared that time flies so fast because he feels that “Matanglawin” is still a new show even after producing 155 episodes.
It’s no wonder that the show and its host have already garnered more than 40 awards from respected award giving bodies such as PMPC Star Awards, Anak TV, and the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT)-DepEd that recognized it as the Most Child-Friendly Educational Program.
“It’s really heart-warming whenever Matanglawin receives an award especially if it’s from the different schools around the Philippines because you’ll feel that the youth appreciate us and they patronize our program,” he said.
The show also has an advocacy project called It’s Cool to B-in that gives away biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste bins to different schools while Kuya Kim encourages the students to actively participate in waste segregation.
Because of his advocacy for the environment, Kuya Kim was appointed by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau or PAWB as Ambassador of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity and by the Philippine Eagle Foundation as the first National Ambassador for Philippine Eagles last year.
And for Kuya Kim, every anniversary is a chance for a new beginning because there are more adventures in store for him and the avid viewers of “Matanglawin”.
“Knowledge is really infinite. In the coming episodes, the approach will be more creative and bolder. We will venture to farther places, and we will provide information in a livelier way.”
Don’t miss this exciting two-part anniversary special of “Matanglawin” this April 3 and 10, 9:30 AM on ABS-CBN.

Jed Madela, ‘The Voice’ of TFC’s Newest Station ID

After Martin Nievera, Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano and Charice Pempengco, the next world-renowned singer who serves as “The Voice” of this year’s station ID of The Filipino Channel (TFC) is no other than Jed Madela.

Jed himself is a Global Filipino who brings honor to his country wherever his passion for singing leads him. He first made waves in 2003 when he won the Best Voice of Asia Male Singer of the Year in Kazakhstan. Not long after, he caught the western music industry’s attention at the World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Burbank, California. Jed got all the major awards, bested over 3,500 acts from 51 countries and became the 2005 Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World.
After winning the highly coveted WCOPA title, Jed found himself in front of eager producers and agents who offered him several recording and acting opportunities in Hollywood, “They wanted to fix my papers and let me stay there permanently,” Jed recalls. But Jed decided to return to the Philippines. “I want to share the victory with my fellow Filipinos,” he says.
As his way of giving back to his home country, Jed breathes life to “Tayo ang TFC”, dedicated to the millions of Global Filipinos he represents. TFC’s 17th anniversary station ID is in celebration not just of the success of TFC but also of the enhanced lives of overseas Filipinos and their families.
According to Mr. John-D J. Lazatin, the Customer Engagement Head of TFC, “As we launch our new station identity, we look at ourselves from the eyes of our customers. To them, we are not just a channel and a provider of various services. Through the years, we have been a Kapamilya that help lead brighter, happier lives wherever they choose to prosper. TFC is a beacon of light that will always journey with the Filipino as he brings out his own light into the world for himself, his family and his community.”
For two consecutive years, TFC has been recognized by no less than the PromaxBDA World Awards for its outstanding station IDs: Silver Award for “Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika” in 2005 and another Silver Award for “Lipad ng Pangarap” in 2006. The PromaxBDA Awards is the only competition organized by the international association of entertainment professionals to recognize excellence in Marketing, Design and Creative Content and serve as the industry standard for excellence. Hopefully, with Jed rendering the theme for TFC’s new station ID, the world would once again recognize Filipino ingenuity.
This Sunday (April 3), watch out for the unveiling of “Tayo ang TFC” in ASAP Rocks on ABS-CBN in the Philippines and TFC in other countries around the world.
